Our Lady Peace is a Canadian alternative rock band consisting of Raine Maida (vocals), Duncan Coutts (bass), Jeremy Taggart (drums), and Steve Mazur (guitar). The band's original guitarist Mike Turner placed a "musicians wanted" ad in Toronto-based Now Magazine in 1992. Michael Raine Maida, a criminology student at the University of Toronto, was the first to reply and formed the band ‘As If’. The band was short-lived due to the differing priorities of its members. Later, Raine and Mike attended a music seminar where they met Arnold Lanni, the owner of Arnyard Studios.

Take death for example.
A great deal of our effort goes into avoiding it.
We make extraordinary efforts to delay it,
and often consider its intrusion as
a tragic event. Yet we'd find it hard to
live without it. Death gives meaning
to our lives; it gives importance and
value to time. Time would become
meaningless if there were too much of it.
If death were indefinitely put off, the human
psyche would end up… well, like the gambler in
the Twilight Zone episode.
